Beef Quality Assurance Objective:
Why Should We be Concerned?
Today’s consumers have several safety issues with the beef
industry. Whether those issues stem from the reality of E. coli
O157:H7 outbreaks or from the perception provided to them from the
media, it doesn’t matter. These consumer issues must be addressed
by beef producers in a way that proves to the consumer that the
intent of producers is to provide the safest product possible.
With that in mind, the mission of the Beef Quality Assurance program
is to maximize consumer confidence in and acceptance of beef by
focusing the industry’s attention on beef quality through
the use of science, research and educational initiatives.
More specifically, the objective of the Colorado Beef Quality
Assurance (BQA) Program is to ensure that all cattle are produced
and maintained in a proper manner in order to provide a safe, high
quality beef product to the consuming public. The intent of the
Program is to assist producers with production and management practices
that will help regain consumer confidence in beef products and the
entire beef industry. next page
